In 2011 the Department of Metallurgical and Foundry Engineering became an Institute, with three departments.

Dr. Kékesi Tamás az intézet jelenlegi igazgatója

Prof. Dr. Tamás Kékesi ,Head of the Department, Director of  the Institute.

The Department of Chemical Metallurgy and Surface technology is the successor of the former established Department of Non-Ferrous (1870) and Ferrous Metallurgy (1872).

The recent aims of the department is to renew its old industrial connection, to get in contact with new partners and to participate in as many EU project as it is possible.
On the other hand we are responsible for the teaching and researching of the surface and the waste treatment technologies, but also for the long-existing pyro and hydro metallurgical technologies.
Our department is responsible for the Metallurgy specialisation in the BSc and MSc materials/metallurgical engineer courses.

Prof. Dr. Jenő Dúl, Head of the Department.

The Department of Foundry and its predecessor in title was established in 1965. The main research fields of the department are the following: solidification phenomena during casting, metallurgy of castings, properties of the foundry sands, low and high velocity metal flowing phenomena, metal waste treatment, energetic calculations, etc. We are dealing with Casting Simulation since 1991. From 2007 we have a high-tech simulation laboratory, and a full-access to several professional simulation programs.

Our department is responsible for the Casting specialisation in the BSc and MSc materials/metallurgical engineer courses. Since the foundation of our department more than 570 students specialised and graduated in the field of Foundry Engineering.

Dr. Ibolya Kardos,
Head of the Department.

The External Department of Metallurgy (ISD Dunaferr) was established in 2011, in order to develop the connection between the University of Miskolc and the ISD Dunaferr Zrt. The aim of this department is to provide internship opportunities for the students,- whose specialised in Metallurgy-, furthermore to give them possibility to get experiences during their studies and also to provide themes for graduate students for their BSc and MSc theses.
